Mid-Month Check In

Writer's picture: Emily MorganEmily Morgan

Hey 821 Fam!

What a whirlwind week! The Australian Open has been delivering great line ups, with a mix of our faves bowing out and some surprising upsets shaking things up. Let’s just say, my semifinal predictions are officially toast. 😭

(Spoiler alert: If you’re not caught up, skip ahead!)

Here’s the heartbreak lineup so far:

  • Medvedev is out

  • Coco is out

  • Monfils is out (but what a fantastic run!)

  • Andreeva is out (phenomenal effort!)

  • Paolini is out

  • And Paul is out

  • And Alcaraz is out ):

So, who’s left to close the deal?

ATP

I’m calling a Sinner vs. Djokovic showdown

WTA

I had my heart set on a Sabalenka vs. Swiatek matchup, BUT wouldn’t mind seeing Keys or Svitolina make it to the finals either!

So, what do you think? Who’s your pick to take the crown this year? Hit reply and share your predictions—we’d love to hear them!

💫 Recap from the Goal Setting Workshop

Last week, we hosted the 821 Goal Setting Workshop, where we introduced the 821 Guide to 2024 Reflection & 2025 Goals Guide for the 821 New Year Challenge.

We’ve been making great strides in our 2025 New Year’s Challenge! Suzy, Jules, and I have tackled several milestones this past week:

A few NY Challenge items we knocked out this week:

  • Took a yoga class

  • Mediated for 20 min

  • Reflected and wrote down 8 things we were grateful to experience in 2024

  • Attended 3 tennis classes in 1 week (shout out to the 7 am crew)

  • Completed our 2025 goal-setting workbook (included below)

  • Created our 2025 vision board

Highlights from the workshop

  1. Reflection: This portion of the guide encourages you to assess your accomplishments, express gratitude, acknowledge challenges overcome, and celebrate progress and lessons learned from 2024.

  2. Visualization: Once you’ve reflected, you now dream about what a great year ahead would look like for you. Through visualization, you clarify what your ideal 2025 looks like through health, relationships, career, finances, and fun.

  3. Prioritization: Once you have expanded and leaned into the vision, finalizing your top 10 goals is the next step. You want to make sure to take it 1 or 2 goals at a time. No need to tackle all 10 at once.

  4. Identity Alignment: Then, a quick identity check is needed. Are you aligned with the correct routine, beliefs, habits, and mindsets to achieve this goal?

🏆 What’s Up Next?

1. The Athlete Wellness Masterclass Series

So over the past year, we have been introducing the community to the importance of wellness in sports. Not because it is“cool”, but necessary especially the older we get the more important to establish a routine. We created a spin-off of programming called the Athlete Wellness Collective and saw a need for more access to trusted resources and experts who could help our athletes with guidance on nutrition, mindset, and recovery.

We have curated a virtual masterclasses series, beginning this week, covering mindset, nutrition, and recovery, led by our team of experts designed to make wellness accessible and practical for athletes at all levels.

Each session focuses on a key topic and gives you actionable ways to incorporate it into your routine. These workshops are great because they give you an opportunity to connect you to our wellness team directly, who are some of the best in the industry.

We also have a bonus workshop for Match Play Strategy, this Wed at 8pm, to help with those competing weekly and needing to develop their player toolkit.

Upcoming Workshops (8 PM via Zoom):

  • 1/22: Intro to Match Play Strategy with Emily Morgan

  • 1/29: Understanding the Athlete’s Mindset with Natalie Hatjes

  • 2/5: Intro to Athlete Nutrition with Jaclyn Sklaver

  • 2/12: Intro to Athlete Recovery with 821 Mind + Body

If you are interested in attending these workshops, please send us a reply “Im interested in AWC” and we will email you the upcoming Zoom links directly!

2. 821 Challengers Spring Registration Opens

For those who don’t already know—we have a league! 🏅

The 821 Challengers League has been in beta testing for the past few months, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience.

Here’s how it works:

This league is a curated group of players coming together to grow, compete, and level up their tennis skills in a supportive team environment. Every week, they practice 2x together for match focused strategy and drills, and play each other in a ladder format to be ranked by end of season. This crew becomes a team and we are loving both the ups and downs that come with competition.

The progress we’ve seen over the last two months has been amazing. From improvements on the court, to the camaraderie within the group, we couldn’t be prouder of the players who’ve joined us.

What’s next? We’re already planning for the next round of league play and registration. Registration opens up in February for the Spring season, so stay tuned! If you’re ready to challenge yourself to competition and a niche match focused environment, add your name to the priority list here.

To our current players: you are absolutely crushing it! Keep up the fantastic work. 🙌
